Family
History - Societies.
There is no doubt that joining a local family history society will be
of great advantage in your research. They are like minded people with
different levels of experience. It is the place where you will get the
most help and also gain valuable experience in researching. They
will have access to much material that you would otherwise not see.
The Federation of Family History Societies is an international organisation
founded in 1974 to represent family history societies in England and Wales
and some overseas countries. They have an excellent website that lists
locations in alphabetical order, where they have a member society . You
may search for a society in the area of your interest at: FFHS.
The UK family history societies, which have transcribed millions of records
between them, sell most of the transcriptions of parish records, monumental
inscriptions, etc etc online at Parish
Chest. These transcriptions are invaluable to the researcher.
Genfair is another place that you may find transcriptions for sale. Click

Scotland have their own society - The Scottish Association of Family History
