The
basic first steps will be pretty much the
same when researching your family history in Australia, but in addition
there are many useful websites specific to Australia which you will find
extremely helpful.
Archives of Australia. It is an important site that has lots of information
relative to Australian research.
No Australian family history page would be complete without a link to
the site where we may search for passenger and ships lists. The best I
have found is The
Ships List.
It is very important to join a family history society, to meet like minded
people with more experience than yourself. They also have source material
possibly unavailable elsewhere. For information about the societies from
the governing body - the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations
The Society of Australian Genealogists has lots of information to help
you in your research, including some very useful links. click
here.
The Australian Family History Compendium has a good site with again many
useful links. click
here.
Another great site - The Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies
A directory of Australian Archives may be found here.
